How to import browser bookmarks and organize them

Before importing: make a portable backup

Chrome, Edge, and Firefox can export bookmarks as an HTML file, commonly based on the Netscape bookmark format. This file carries bookmark titles, URLs, and folder structure between tools.

Save an untouched copy somewhere safe. An import is reversible when you still have the source file; cleaning the browser first removes that safety net.

1. Open your browser bookmark manager.
2. Choose the export option and save the HTML file.
3. Duplicate or back up the file before editing or importing it elsewhere.

Import the HTML file into LinkWise

Preserve first, simplify second

Keep the imported hierarchy initially. It gives you a reference for where links came from and makes it easier to compare against the browser.

Verify the migration before changing your browser

Search for a few known titles, open links from several folders, and compare a sample with the original browser library. Keep the HTML export until you have used the new library long enough to trust it.

Once the import is reliable, install the browser extension so new pages go into the same searchable library instead of restarting the split.
