LinkWise vs Recall: a vault is not a bookmark knowledge base

Recall-style products start from chat over mixed personal knowledge. LinkWise starts from public URLs you chose to save, then makes them searchable, citable, and exportable.

Editorial split: a chat-over-everything graph vs a URL that becomes cited sources

The short answer

Stay with Recall (or a similar vault) if the center of gravity is chat over notes, files, and ideas you already own. That is a real product job.

Try LinkWise if every new asset should begin as a public page, article, or YouTube URL you deliberately captured—and you need the source still sitting under the answer.

The conversion page is Recall alternative. This note is the positioning underneath it.

Feature comparison (from current product sites)

Recall features from getrecall.ai. LinkWise does not try to be a second brain for PDFs, podcasts, and quizzes.

Read the cells as different jobs. A vault that chats over PDFs is not a bookmark knowledge base.

Two intake models

Vaults ask: “what do I already know?” Bookmarks ask: “what did I choose to keep from the open web?” Mixing them in one UI usually makes both worse.

Recall-shaped tools shine when you dump mixed personal material and want a conversational layer. LinkWise refuses that scope. We do not ingest your disk. We process URLs you saved.

Where a vault wins

If your daily motion is talking to a corpus of PDFs, meeting notes, and private docs, a vault is the right metaphor. LinkWise 1.0 has no PDF library, no team workspace, and no claim to be a second brain for everything.

Where LinkWise is stricter—and more useful

A save is a knowledge object: readable article text when extraction works, timestamped transcripts when public captions exist, keywords you confirm, Pro search by meaning, Ask with citations, Markdown out to Obsidian.

If Ask cannot point at a passage you own, we would rather say so than sound fluent. That is the opposite of unbounded chat.

Reading a saved public URL as a source object in LinkWise
The unit of knowledge is a URL you captured, not a chat over mixed files.

Side-by-side

Use this as a filter.

  • Intake: Recall — mixed personal knowledge. LinkWise — public URLs via extension or paste, including /try.
  • Trust: Vault answers can blur sources. LinkWise Ask is supposed to jump back to a stored span.
  • YouTube: LinkWise turns public captions into notes. No captions, no invented speech.
  • Exit: LinkWise Markdown is built for Obsidian. Bidirectional sync is not 1.0.
  • Platforms: Vaults often ship broader clients. LinkWise 1.0 is web + Chrome / Edge / Firefox.

How to test

Keep the vault. Save eight public URLs in LinkWise. Ask a question that should cite two of them. If the citations are theater, do not migrate.
